My story
The catholic parishes of Reading are coming together to make a heritage walk through Caversham and Reading to our historical churches, with a slice of history at each one. We are aiming to conquer around 10km of pavement. We are all ages, all nationalities, all levels of fitness, but we share a common goal, to help our brothers and sisters across the world affected by hunger, conflict, natural disaster and climate change.
CAFOD is an international development charity and the official aid agency of the Catholic Church in England and Wales. We believe in a world where we can reach every woman, man and child so that they can flourish. Cafod has a local presence in 165 countries and territories. At its core, is the belief in helping people to help themselves by sharing skills and knowledge - whether it be through education in agriculture to even providing classes in business start ups. CAFOD is grounded in hope and putting people in charge of their own futures.
CAFOD is working with Christian, Jewish, Muslim and secular partners in Gaza to help families meet their basic needs and stands in solidarity with all Israelis and Palestinians working for peace with justice.
You are of course warmly welcomed to join us on the walk on the day, gathering at St Anne's in Caversham on 10.15 a.m on Saturday 9th March, going via St James, Reading Abbey, St William of York, Our Lady of Peace and ending at Christ the King with a picnic lunch. Bring your children, bring your friends, bring your neighhours, bring your pets! We promise it will be fun, as well as worthwhile!!
